Saransk (Russian: Саранск, IPA: [sɐˈransk]; Moksha: Саранош[citation needed]; Erzya: Саран ош[citation needed]) is the capital city of the Republic of Mordovia, Russia, as well as its financial and economic center. It is located in the Volga basin at the confluence of the Saranka and Insar Rivers, about 630 kilometers (390 mi) east of Moscow. Population: 297,415 (2010 Census);[5]304,866 (2002 Census);[9]312,128 (1989 Census).[10]
